How to pick an electrician in Blackpool without regretting it
There are a lot of electricians on the Fylde Coast and the honest truth is that most of them are fine. The ones that cause problems tend to share the same traits, so they are easy enough to screen out. Ask what certification you will be given at the end and whether it covers the work being done. Ask whether they are insured and be willing to see the certificate. Ask whether the price is fixed or an estimate that can move. And ask who is actually doing the work, because on a lot of quotes the person who came to look at it will never be on site. If those four answers are clear and specific, you are probably in safe hands. If they are vague, keep looking.
Why a one-person business is a feature, not a limitation
Breeze Electrical is deliberately just me. That means I cannot be in two places at once, and on a busy week you may wait a few days for a non-urgent job. What you get in return is that nothing gets lost between a salesperson, a scheduler and whoever was free that morning. The person who quoted your job is the person doing it, so the plan in my head is the plan on the wall. If something goes wrong afterwards you ring the same number and get the same person. For most domestic and small commercial work on the Fylde Coast that trade is worth making.
What most Blackpool houses actually need
A big share of the housing here is pre-war or immediately post-war, and a lot of it has never been fully rewired, just added to. The pattern I see most often is a consumer unit that has been changed at some point sitting in front of wiring that has not been assessed, no RCD protection on the older circuits, and one ring main doing the work of three. That is not automatically dangerous, and it does not automatically mean a rewire. What it does mean is that a proper test is worth having before you spend money, because it tells you which category your house is actually in. Plenty of installations are safe with a consumer unit upgrade and some remedial work rather than the full rewire, and I would rather tell you that than sell you the bigger job.
Costs, and being straight about them
Nobody can price a rewire down the phone without seeing the house, and anyone who does is guessing in their own favour. What I can do is give you honest guide ranges up front so you have a number in your head before you ring, which is what the prices page is for. Quotes are free, they are fixed once given, and the only thing that changes one is something genuinely unforeseen behind a wall, in which case you get a phone call and a decision rather than a surprise on the invoice.
Where I work across the Fylde Coast
Blackpool is my base, and the patch runs from Lytham St Annes in the south up through Blackpool and Bispham to Cleveleys, Thornton and Fleetwood, and inland to Poulton-le-Fylde and Kirkham. There is no travel surcharge anywhere on that patch. If you are just outside it, ring and ask, the answer is usually yes.
